The College of Physical Education and Recreational Sports (CoPERS) claimed the championship after outshining the College of Engineering (CoE) in the Men’s Basketball, last August 30 in the BulSu Activity Center.

In the first half of the game, the CoE reigned as they get the basket easily over to their seemed-low-defensive opponents, but the CoPERS managed to bounce back in the second half from their six-point deficit and remained upbeat until the last quarter of the game.

Kenneth Reyes, 21-year old lead scorer of CoPERS was the one of the main contributor of this victory achieving the big 24 points and 12 assists.

“Sipag at tiyaga lang. Sabi ni coach, malayo pa, pwede pang humabol kaya ayon, humabol kami,” said Reyes when asked about the key to turn up their play all the way to the championship.

Before they got in to the finals, CoPERS has once faced the College of Business Administration and College of Architecture and Fine Arts and has defeated them both. Now, the Men’s Basketball was added in their list of golds.

Scores per quarter: 1st:8-7 (CoE); 2nd: 27-21 (CoE); 3rd: 49-37 (CoPERS); 4th 67-60 (CoPERS)

BULACAN STATE UNIVERSITY - A new football champ reigns.

The College of Business Administration CBA Magnates captured the crown, a new team which entered the champions list of BulSu 2012 Intramurals.

The football tournament finals happened at the Bulacan Sports Complex on August 30.

The Magnates, defeated last year’s ranking team College of Engineering (CoE) Red Ants through a penalty kick shoot-out scored 4-2 in the semis.

The Magnates conquered the 2011’s top team, the College of Industrial Technology (CIT) through a free kick shot scored 2-1 which came fom the kick goals of Alvin Godoy and Jovi Jamero.

The CBA and CIT already made a kick-off in game 7, day two of the eliminations, and resulted a draw.

The CBA Magnates only joined the tournament last year, that is why winning the crown was really unexpected.

“Mga bago lang kasi kami, kaya hindi rin naming to inaasahan”, the Magnates coach Jessie Gin Capino said.

The new champ scored 10 goals with one draw without losing any game in the whole three-day competition. Three came from the third game of day one, beating the same but fresh rookie team, the College of Social Science and Philosophy (CSSP) Rajas with the score of 3-0. One came from crushing the College of Information and Communications Technol ogy (CICT) Firefox in the game 12 of day two eliminations. Four goals were from the semis and two came from the finals.

“Magkakasundo kasi kaming lahat. Kaya kung matalo man, walang arte-arte at walang sisihan”, CBA coach and member of CLFL 2012 Champion Futbulakenyos Jessie Gin commented about the team’s advantage of winning the crown.

The members of CBA Magnets are Juanito Aquino, Lourd Virgil Manalo, Darwyn Simoun, Eric Quiambao, Rafael Estrada, Moris Marquez, Alvin Godoy, Lorenz Domingo, Jon Jovi Jamoro, Jerome Cunanan, Valerio Carlos and Rosel de Guzman.

BULACAN STATE UNIVERISTY - The College of Industrial Technology (CIT) Stingers once again proved their eminence and superiority in softball men’s division, bagging home the championship title in the recent BulSU Intamurals 2012.

The CIT softball men team battled against the lineup of Sarmiento Campus for the championship title at the Marcelo H. del Pilar Sports Complex yesterday. The CIT Stingers easily slaughtered Sarmiento Stars’ chance of bringing home the cup as the team dominated the game with the score of 14-1.

Having claimed lopsided victories with other BulSU colleges and campuses, CIT softball and baseball coach Charlie Cano believes that the softball men’s team has not yet encountered its most powerful opponent.

Any team, kayang i-beat. Ang medyo mabigat na kalaban namin dito is ‘yong COPERS, and then ‘yong Sarmiento Campus. Kaya lang sa nakita naming laro ng Sarmiento Campus kahapon, with the score of 14-1, masyadong malayo ang pagitan ng score at ng players,” said Cano.

Cano also shared the guarantee he felt that his softball team will win the title even before the final game started.

“Hindi naman sa kompyansa ako, pero nakita ko na sa kasi ‘yong klase ng laro ng kalaban. At saka mga manlalaro na ang nagdidikta ng laro. Hindi lang naman puro palakihan at palakasan ang softball eh, ginagamit din ang utak,” added Cano.

The Stingers’ softball and baseball coach also said that his team’s force increased when athletes from COPERS transferred to CIT. Cano disclosed that was one of the reasons why COPERS’ softball and baseball teams’ force somehow declined.

“’Yong tatlong trainee ng COPERS ay nakuha ko, nag-transfer sila sa CIT. ‘Yong lakas dati ng COPERS, nailipat ngayon sa CIT,” Cano uttered.

Owning the title this year is the 5th straight triumph of the CIT Stingers softball men, dating back from its very first trophy in 2008.

BULACAN STATE UNIVERSITY - After being the Intramurals Cheerdance Champion last year, the College of Business Administration Magnates PEP Squad (CBA PEP) fell down to 2nd place in the recent BulSU Intramurals Pep Squad Competition.

The competition was held last August 29 at BulSU's Valencia Hall.

According to Jonabeth Frias, CBA PEP Group Leader, it's not all about the championship title, but performing well. Just being among the top 3 made them satisfied.

“No'ng tinawag kaming 1st runner up ok lang samin, tanggap namin. Kuntento kami sa nakuha namin no hard feelings,” Frias said.

“Siguro sa linis ng routine kami nagkulang kasi nalaglag yung isa sa'min during stunts. Siguro lilinisin pa namin 'yong routine namin at dadamihan pa namin 'yong flyer na iti-train para sa isang taon,” Frias added.

Five colleges joined the competition. They were the College of Home Economics (CHE) which won the title, College of Business Administration (CBA) which got the 1st runner up, and College of Education (CoEd) which was the 2nd runner up. The College of Arts and Letters (CAL) and College of Science (CS) got 4th and 5th place respectively.

Meanwhile ,the College of Information and Communications Technology (CICT) PEP Squad were not allowed by their college Dean Fausto Hillario to join the competition due to last year's incident when one of their members fell during a stunt and was sent to the hospital.

“Syempre nakakalungkot kasi balak talaga naming bumawi kaso hindi talaga kami pinayagan ni dean. Nakakapanghinayang gusto pa naman naming sumali,” said August Bryan Simora, CICT PEP and Firefox Leader.

" Next intrams, ipu-push talaga namin 'yong pagsali sa cheer dance. Pipilitin talaga namin si dean, tsaka last year ko na, graduating na kasi 'ko next school year, ended Simora.

Carrying the flags of their respective colleges, the students of Bulacan State University dropped their pens down for a while to wear jerseys and play Futsal for the Intramurals 2012, August 28 at the University’s Activity Center.

FUTSAL WOMEN

Ladies from the College of Business Administration (CBA) let loose of winning goals to pummel Meneses Campus, 4-1, in the inaugural game of the Women’s Futsal. Carla Marie De Ocampo, Heartescel dela Cruz and Lizel Francisco of CBA led the four goals of their team that pushed them up to the second round.

The first-timer women team proved that teamwork united them to have a winning kick in that particular game.

“Sa totoo lang amateur pa sila eh, mga first timers. We really don’t have any backgrounds regarding Futsal, teamwork lang talaga,” said Camille Joice Sombero, CBA’s Coach.

The College of Education (CoEd) and College of Industrial Technology (CIT), on the other hand, were first on the list to step on the court to play for the continuation of the Women’s Futsal Game Wednesday.

With a score of 3-2, CoEd smashed out CIT through Crystalyn Eugenio and Dona Moral’s one-each goals. Moral succesfully got the free kick and gained another point that thoroughly slipped down the CIT.

CIT’s Coach Monette dela Cruz revealed that the reason for their defeat is having no proper training at all.

“Wala talagang proper training,” Dela Cruz simply stated.

The two respective winning teams, CBA and CoEd Championship match was held on August 30. The game ended with a score of 4-1, in favor of the College of Education (CoEd). Mariel Acob, Crystalyn Eugenio and Dona Moral again of CoEd struck the four victory goals of their team, shaded Carla De Ocampo of CBA’s one.

The College of Education (CoEd)was hailed as Champions for Futsal Women then. Followed by the College of Business Administration (CBA) as 2nd and College of Industrial Technology (CIT) as 3rd.

Jervis Roy Mendez, CoEd’s Student-Coach was happy for their team’s achievement.

FUTSAL MEN

University’s gentlemen on the other side also showed their efficiency in sports as they battle for the Futsal Men Title. College of Engineering crumpled College of Criminal Justice Education (CCJE), 3-2, in the first game of the Men’s Futsal Tuesday. The Engineering’s keeper Jayson Clacio got a winning point of Goal-to-Goal. Grace dela Cruz, COE’s Coach cited that her team underwent regular training that enhanced her player’s skills that made them beat the CCJE in just a wink of an eye.

“Regular practice, teamwork and unity. Kinaya namin, kasi pinaghandaan talaga ng team namin 'yong game na’to,she said.

The College of Engineering (COE) advanced for the next round with the College of Home Economics (CHE) as their opponent, August 30, but COE’s luck faded away when they fought the men of CHE. Jan Paul Custodio scored all the three goals of the Home Economics that overpowered the COE.

The College of Industrial Technology (CIT) blew away the College of Education (CoEd) with a 4-1 triumph. Louie Paragoso (Goal Keeper), Leonel Areola and Jeffrey Llanderes held the goals for CIT while Kurt Russel Sundiam scored for CoEd.

The Education’s Coach Emmanuel Robles spokr about his team’s defeat.

"Una, pisikal 'yong game. Medyo na-tense kasi kalahati nyian high school lang,” Robles explained.

Meanwhile, the College of Criminal Justice Education (CCJE) came back, August 30, and scored seven over the hopeless two goals of the College of Home Economics (CHE). Nathaniel de Guzman preceded the Criminology’s points which instantly threw CHE out of the scene and made the CCJE be in the 3rd place.

On the next game, the College of Industrial Technology (CIT) conquered again the whole court when they finished a 3-0 game with the College of Physical Education Recreation and Sports (CoPERS). Jeffrey Llanderes and Leonel Areola goaled for the CIT. Areola did another point as he smoothly took the penalty kick, leaving the COPERS with a blank record.

College of Education (CoEd) recouped its loss to CIT as they blemished College of Information and Communications Technology (CICT), 7-4, through COED’s Kurt Russel Sundiam’s four goals, Jhon Michael Espiritu’s two and Mark John Gatmaitan’s one.

COED and CIT who cut all the colleges that joined the Futsal Men competition into strips now fought for the Championship Trophy, August 31, at the BulSU Activity Center.

CIT’s Louie Paragoso, Jeffrey Llanderes, Gerhild Dimagiba and Leonel Areola beat the COED, 4-0, automatically pulled the Education majors to the 2nd place.

Industrial Technology’s Coach Raul Bernaldez were very proud for what they’ve reached.

The students who joined the recently held university sports competition will face each other again next year and look forward to find their luck for another set of games in the BulSU Intramurals 2013.

Bulacan State University - After several years, CoEd Flames (College of Education) brought the fire on the dance floor and burned themselves with awards as they were hailed champions in the Dance Sport Competition on August 27 at BulSU's Activity Center.

Completing the group with five representatives was hard for Kenneth Taguinod, the group leader od the Hip Hop category.

“Kaming dalawa lang ni Arraine. Kahit sa Jazz kami sumali wala pa rin kaming members, dalawa lang kami,” Kenneth said.

After having the complete set of five, the group find it hard to have time for rehearsals due to schedule conflicts. They only practiced for two hours a day within two weeks.

As the group leader, Kenneth decided to color their hair with Yellow flames to be unique during the competition. They also had a hard time convincing the mother of Coleen, one of the members, to join them in the competition.

“Three years s'ang nahinto sa pagsasayaw kasi ayaw ng nanay nya. Iniyakan pa nga n'ya nanay n'ya para lang payagan s'yang sumali at magpakulay,” said Arraine Shantal Cruz.

“Ayaw din pumayag ni dean. Kailangan after ng contest magpaitim na ulit kami ng buhok kaso 'yong iba may sugat pa sa ulo kasi nasunog kaya hindi pa pwedeng kulayan ulit,” Arraine added.

Despite of these problems, Flames did not let the fire down. Because of the support of their college together with their coach Rowell Castro and with their dedication to win, they put up the fire on the dance floor and won.

“Mixed emotions. Shocked. Happiness. Masayang Masaya! Hindi nga kami makapaniwala no'ng una. Naiyak pa nga coach namin kasi ngayon lang nanalo college namin sa Hip Hop, laging sa Jazz. Masaya na kaming umabot sa top 3, pero mas masaya kasi kami 'yong champion. Hindi namin in-e-expect,” Arraine said.

Aside from Kenneth Taguinod, Arraine Shantal Cruz, Mark Anthony Narciso, Carlo dela Pena, and Coleen Alexis Tolentino who won the Hip Hop category, CoEd students Mary Joy Macapagal and John Christopher dela Cruz won the Latin category, and Mark Anthony de Guzman together with Elirah Ching won the Standard category.

TAIPEI, TAIWAN- A successful come-from-behind triumph was registered by the Smart Gilas Pilipinas 2.0 to bring home the 2012 William Jones Cup title.

Alaska Aces’ main point guard LA Tenorio lighten up the PH after he hit the 18-foot jump shot off Marcus Douthit screen for his total of 20 points to guarantee their win against USA, 76-75, last night.

In the first part, the USA started the game via 6-0 courtesy of Jermaine Barnes but the Philippines responded in a 10 unanswered points to get the lead after Jeff Chan’s two trey for his 20 points of total. USA still handled the lead in the end, 13-12 after a 7-2 run. In the second quarter, USA stretched their lead by dominating the boards. Their 5’10 guard James Justice led them, dropping 17 points and they headed to their dug-out with the advantage 34-23.

Curtis Marshall widen their lead after he knocked down a three, 39-25. With Gary David’s long distance shot he decreasde the US lead, 44-37. With eight seconds left, Tenorio started to get his rhythm after he went for a reverse against seven footer Scott Vandermeer to ride the last sentence in the quarter, 59-51.

Tenorio and Norwood knocked down from the arc to bond the score at 59, Tenorio and the Philippines finally got the driver’s seat with his floater, 59-61 but his nemesis Justice connected with teardrops to get back the lead for the US, 63-62.

Once again the lieutenant LA does damage after his spinned and a shot to regain the lead. It's been a point guard showdown when Justice once again shutdown the Filipino crowd in the arena after he pulled down a three, 73-72. Jermaine Dearman left wide open underneath the basket coming off a bullet pass from his teammate, to get the lead once again at 75-74 with 36.1 seconds left. Gilas mentor Chot Reyes executed the play he wanted, and the ball ended on the fiery hands of Tenorio and buried that jump shot with 19.9 seconds left. USA didn’t call a time-out, continuing their play but they didn’t score at that possession. Tenorio grasped for the rebound, and as expected the US immediately fouled him. With 1.9 seconds left Jeff Chan engaged to a two charity but his missed both, USA hoping for one last word with 0.9 ticks left, USA didn’t sink a jump shot that sealed the game. Philippines Naturalized center Marcus Douthit dished 17 points.

Finally, the Philippines grabbed the championship after the 1998 Philippine Centennial Team led by current B-Meg Llamados head coach Tim Cone. It took 14 years after owning the 4th title. The Philippines ended the tournament with a 7-1 record. They started their campaign by beating Jordan 88-78, followed by a lopsided victory against Chinese- Taipei B Guang Hua, 99-68, and then escaped South Korea, 82-79, another close victory against Japan, 88-84, and suffered from their only loss in the tournament coming from Lebanon, 91-72. After that they defeated the defending champion Iran via 77-75 and followed this last game against the 13-time champion.

LA Tenorio was hailed as the tournament’s Most Valuable Player. Gilas will compete in 4th FIBA Asia Cup in Tokyo, Japan on September 14-22 with almost the same line-up except for the addition of Talk n’ Text forward Jared Dillinger. Bulacan State University (BSU) is now preparing for the yearly Intramurals with this year's theme “Tatag ng Kalooban, Liksi ng Katawan, Talas ng Isipan at Pagkakapatiran, Lakas ng BulSuan sa taunang Intramural” in which all the colleges including the four satellite campuses of the university will show off their talents and abilities in sports, occurring on August 27 to 31.

The BulSU Intramurals 2012 will be hosted by the College of Physical Education, Recreation and Sports (COPERS). According to Dean Raquel Mendoza, it is always a work of the COPERS every year. Being in the college of PE and Sports, they are the ones tasked to prepare it.

The event will start with a parade at 7am on August 27, all the way from the Bulacan Sports Complex. It will be joined by the BSU Calm Riders Motorcycle Association Inc., Marshall, Colors, BulSU Officials, Officiating Official, BulSU Brass band, Bustos campus, Hagonoy Campus, Meneses Campus, Sarmiento Campus and different Colleges in the main campus.

“Intramurals is a very big event that Bulacan State University is really preparing for it. It is a scenario and regular activity of any school for the very beginning even during the time that BSU's name is still BCAT. It is almost a century. From the time since this school was built, Intramurals is a regular activity in the school,” said Dean Mendoza.

The event is sponsored by some volunteers and by athe BulSU administration. It is through the athletic fees that the students pay in their miscellaneous fee that is why the university has a fund for this kind of activity.

“There are some volunteers, I don’t know what they are going to give but in the Beauty Pageant I understand there are a number of sponsors that they could give, small prizes, but the major prizes will be coming from the administration. In the whole Intrams we’re getting it from the athletic fee,” Mendoza added.

Mendoza gave her outlook and reasons in this yearly intramurals in which every student will be given a chance to show their hidden abilities and to strengthen their self-confidence.

“Primarily, this could be a good break for a very monopoly academic endeavor. Another, it is also a way of scouting athletes for our varsity team and then, of course this is a break for everyone, to those who cannot participate in the varsity,” she ended.

TAIPEI, TAIWAN - Gary David was scorching hot in the last two minutes after sinking the last two tough shots over his Korean defender to escort the Smart Gilas Pilipinas 2.0 in a victory against South Korea, 82-79 last August 21 in the 2012 34th William Jones Cup.

David mised consecutive shots in the first three quarter but still delivered the last two jump shots that lead his team to a victory and remain unbeaten in the league with a 3-0 record. Ranidel De Ocampo started their campaign as he dropped the first four points for the team while Chan joined forces as he dig the two threes, to give his team an edge in the first, 24-17. With the win, they joined Iran on the top of the standing at 3-0, dropping Korea in a 2-2 record. South Korea placed second last year after defending champion Iran, who’s defending their title for the last three years. Philippines will play against Japan tomorrow at 5:00pm, in the same venue.
